Frequently Asked Questions
Can I host the software locally? Will you configure an in-office server to run the software?
Although we strongly encourage clients to allow us to manage your hosting, which allows for easy updates and maintenance, it is possible to run a copy of the software yourself. There are two possible advantages to this. First, it allows you access to the software in your office even without an active internet connection (if the server you use is inside your LAN). Second, you are in complete control of your data, which can also be a serious disadvantage. The disadvantages of local/self-managed hosting are: lack of 24 hour server monitoring, little redundancy, decreased security and no software updates.
Local hosting requires a powerful server, due to the high level of database queries, as well as all the latest software. If you have a server you are willing to provide, we will only install Arctic Reservations. It is your responsibility to install PHP, MySQL and Apache (as well as the necessary modules for each of those programs). In addition, you may purchase a server that has already been prepared in full and will function out of the box.
Although you can achieve a slightly lower monthly cost, the initial cost will be signifigantly higher. In addition, there will be costs associated with installing updates onto your server. If you are interested, please contact your billing representative for a quote.
